China's Population Policy



9th grade Geography Class,

Here are the materials needed to complete the homework assignment on China's population policy.

Instructions:

1. Print out the following handout, and answer the questions using the article and videos included within this post.

2. Read this article from CNN, and answer the corresponding questions from your handout.



Background: This article is about twenty year old Li Xue, who is a second child in China. By reading this article, you will be able to see the impacts of China's one child population policy. 

3. Watch the following video about the gender imbalance in China, and answer the corresponding questions.
Background: For cultural reasons, Chinese couples prefer boys over girls. This has lead to a lot of abortion, abandonment, and killing of baby girls. In turn, there is a significantly larger amount of boys to girls. This video will give you a glimpse into the issue. 

4. Watch the following video about China's population policy change from the one child policy to the two child policy. 


Background: Starting January 1st, 2016, China has changed their one child policy to a two child policy. This video explores the impacts of the one child policy and what they are hoping to fix with the two child policy.
